Service on the Free Summer Shuttle began the Friday before the Memorial Day weekend. The City worked with Discover Coronado, which funds the wraps every year, on the design. Shuttles will run through Sept. 5 from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and one hour later Friday and Saturday.
The City has contracted with the Metropolitan Transit System to provide special free bus service on Monday, July 4, for Cays residents. It will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. in 30-minute intervals from the northeast corner of Coronado Cays and Grande Caribe to the southeast corner of Avenue de las Arenas and Silver Strand Boulevard. Stops will be made upon request at Liberty Military Housing at Leyte Road on the special July 4 free bus service from the Cays to the Village. As parking is at a premium on the Fourth of July, this will provide a convenient alternative to driving for Cays residents. Note that the Free Summer Shuttle in the Village will operate from 8:00am to 11:00pm on Monday, July 4. Visit https://bit.ly/SummerShuttleBrochure for more information.
Free MTS day passes are available for Coronado Cays residents at the Coronado Cays HOA Office throughout the summer until September 5.

In March, the Coronado City Council authorized the 2022 Free Summer Shuttle Program, which will operate this year from May 27 through Sept. 5. An agreement with the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System allows the use of four MTS buses along the existing Route 904 around the Village area of Coronado at a cost to the City of $192,312. Buses will run in 15-minute intervals. Once again, with the City’s support, this will be a free service to all passengers. In addition, the City will purchase 1,000 MTS day passes for distribution to the Coronado Cays for use during the program. The City also will operate free bus service from the Coronado Cays to the Community Center on Monday, July 4. Coronado has annually provided free shuttle service to the community since 2013 except for one year during the pandemic.
Since 2013, the City of Coronado has offered the Free Summer Shuttle and it is back for its ninth year. Beginning Friday, May 27, residents, guests, and local business operators will see the familiar Free Summer Shuttle buses along the MTS 904 Route from the Coronado Shores and City Hall to the Coronado Ferry Landing and Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa. The shuttles run in 15-minute intervals and is free to ride. The program is funded by the City and Discover Coronado underwrites the cost to design and install the unique and colorful wrapping. It has been a great public amenity whether using it to run errands, get to the beach, visit local shops or just get around town. Residents and visitors are able to avoid traffic and searching for parking during the busy summer months.

The new bus wrap is a departure from the red vintage Volkswagen bus design that had covered the shuttle buses for the past six years. The design may feel familiar to many in the community as it is based on a public art mural installed on the old Cora Mart building until Vons started its recent renovation. Discover Coronado sponsors the bus wraps. The Free Summer Shuttle will run through Labor Day, Sept. 5, daily from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and one hour later on Friday and Saturday.
