FAQs
Is funding from the State of California already approved?
No. The City of Coronado is preparing an application for funding through the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program. This is a competitive grant program, and funding is not guaranteed. Community participation is an important part of developing a proposal that reflects residents' priorities.
Has the City already selected a park design?
Not yet! We're at the beginning of the planning process and want to hear from the community before developing a proposed design. Residents are encouraged to share ideas for recreation amenities, fitness equipment, landscaping, accessibility, safety, and other improvements. Community feedback, along with site conditions, feasibility, and available funding, will help shape the proposed project.
Can I participate if I cannot attend a meeting?
Absolutely! You can share your ideas and suggestions through this Comment Coronado project page, even if you cannot attend a community planning meeting.
We encourage residents to attend one or more in-person meetings whenever possible, as these provide opportunities to discuss ideas, explore possibilities, and help guide the park's design together.

How will community ideas be considered?
Ideas gathered through community meetings and Comment Coronado will help identify residents' priorities for Glenn Curtiss Park. City staff, the Parks and Recreation Commission, and City Council will review suggestions based on community preferences, available space, site conditions, accessibility, feasibility, and estimated costs.
While not every suggestion may be incorporated, community input will play an important role in developing the proposed improvements included in the grant application.
When would construction begin?
There is no construction date scheduled at this time. The City anticipates submitting its grant application in December 2026, after completing the community planning process.
If funding is awarded, the project would move into additional design, environmental review, permitting, and construction planning. A construction schedule would be developed as the project progresses.
What will happen to the park's existing features?
The City is still in the early stages of planning, and no final decisions have been made regarding park improvements. Community input will help guide the process, along with consideration of the park's existing features, natural surroundings, and site conditions.
