With the growing popularity of Motorized Mobility Devices, or MMDs, the City of Coronado has joined other jurisdictions throughout California in passing laws to enhance the safety of the City's sidewalks. Please be aware of the updated regulations that took effect in January 2025 in Coronado. These rules apply to e-bikes, and other motorized mobility devices, including electric scooters, skateboards, and hoverboards.
Motorized Mobility Device Rules Effective January 3, 2025
1. Use of e-bikes and other motorized mobility devices are prohibited from riding on:
All city sidewalks, beaches, and parks
The Paseo boardwalk near the Hotel del Coronado
The Boardwalk near the Coronado Shores
The Promenade between Glorietta Bay Park and the Bluewater Boathouse Grill.
Please walk your wheels in these areas. ADA mobility devices are permitted.
2. Children under 12 years old are prohibited from operating e-bikes in Coronado. For the first 60 days after January 3, 2025, warning will be issued for violations. After that time, fines up to $25 may be imposed.
Established Routes & Map for Motorized Mobility Devices
Public safety is Coronado’s priority in high traffic pedestrian areas to ensure safe and enjoyable public spaces for all. The City has created the map below to help residents and visitors know where MMDs and bicycles are allowed.
MMDs are allowed to operate on roadways, sharrows, bike paths and lanes, and streets.
All MMDs must follow all DMV regulations and laws pertaining to their device.
Persons under the age of 18 years old must wear a helmet when operating an e-bike.
Persons under the age of 12 years are prohibited from operating an e-bike in Coronado.
MMDs are prohibited in the following areas: all city sidewalks, beaches, and parks; the Paseo boardwalk near the Hotel del Coronado; the Boardwalk near the Coronado Shores; and the Promenade between Glorietta Bay Park and the Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill.
