At a Glance:
The City will assess more inclusive playground options at City Parks and develop a plan for construction and/or rehabilitation of all the City’s playgrounds to utilize a more inclusive design methodology to improve accessibility at City parks.
What is Inclusive Play?
Play is not only fun, but it’s also an essential part of a child’s development and critical for the successful growth of both the mind and body. Playgrounds help support a child’s cognitive, emotional, physical, and social development.
The need for play does not discriminate between children who are typically developing and children with disabilities, whether the disabilities are physical, developmental, intellectual, or sight or hearing impairments.
Inclusive play is the premise that all people have the same desire and need to experience play. A well-designed inclusive playground provides play experiences where everyone can interact and play together.

The City will provide conceptual designs for a new playground at North Cays Park, with a proposed expanded footprint, and inclusive design elements. The public is encouraged to attend and share their input to help shape a welcoming and accessible new playground at the park. This project is part of a broader effort to utilize a more inclusive design methodology to improve accessibility at all City parks. We look forward to the community’s participation.
Renderings of the proposed playground design are in the Documents link to the right.
