Coronado Cays Park Playground Ribbon Cutting – Project Recap

The City of Coronado is pleased to share a successful ribbon cutting for the newly replaced playground at Coronado Cays Park. This long-awaited project removed the previous equipment, equipment that had exceeded its lifespan, and replaced them with brand-new, GameTime play structures. The upgraded playground offers dedicated areas for both younger children (ages 2–5) and older children (ages 5–12), along with a new swing set, creating an engaging environment for children of all ages.

This improvement project commenced in September 2025, reflecting the City’s commitment to reinvesting in recreational spaces. Construction advanced steadily and was fully completed on November 12, 2025, resulting in a revitalized playground ready for public use.

Although not part of the broader Cays Park Master Plan, this project represents our continued investment in enhancing Cays Park and providing high-quality amenities for the Coronado community. The new playground serves as a welcoming space where families can gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors for many years to come.

Installation was completed by R.E. Schultz, Inc., a certified GameTime installer, ensuring the highest construction standards. Work began on September 30 and wrapped up in November, delivering a safe, modern, and thoughtfully designed play space on schedule.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, several individuals and partners were recognized for their contributions:

City Councilmembers in attendance:

  • Mayor John Duncan

  • Councilmember Mark Fleming

  • Councilmember Kelly Purvis

  • Councilmember Amy Steward

Community partners:

  • The Coronado Cays Homeowners Association, represented by Mike Gaylord, Assistant General Manager

City leadership and project contributors:

  • Tina Friend, City Manager

  • Ruby Carr, Associate Architect

  • Nick Paul, Recreation Supervisor, Parks and Beach Division

  • Tim Farmer, Director of Recreation and Golf Services

Their combined leadership, collaboration, and dedication made this project possible, and the city extends its sincere appreciation to all who played a role.

    The new fencing at the Coronado Cays Dog Park has been installed, and the project is nearing completion! We’re excited to share a few photos highlighting the progress and the improvements taking shape.

    While final project details and finishing touches are still underway, the dog park remains available for use by guests and their four-legged friends. We look forward to providing another update soon once the project is fully finalized.
