The new Parker Pump Station has been successfully commissioned after the completion of the 10-day operational test on July 9; marking a significant milestone for the project. City staff has taken operational control over the new pump station and the old station will be decommissioned. Once the decommissioning is completed, the structure will be partially abandoned in place with the upper portion to be removed which will allow for the construction of the permanent generator and enclosure.

Start up and testing activities at the new pump station are ongoing. The new sewer pump station has completed the testing requirements for the demonstration phase along with 4 of the new storm water pumps. The contractor is modifying the temporary recirculation piping to continue with testing for the 3 remaining storm water pumps. Once the demonstration testing has been completed successfully, the new station will perform a 10-day operational test to ensure the system is working properly; once this phase is completed the City will take operational control over the new station. The 10-day test is anticipated to begin at the end of this month.

Testing of the new pump station has begun this week with the contractor performing witness loop checks for all the new field instruments to verify the wiring is correct and the system is functional. Once this is completed the pre-demonstration testing will continue with the motor control center, program logic controller, switchboard, valves and pumps.
This testing will continue through the month and once the pre-demonstration phase has passed, the contractor will continue to the demonstration phase to test the facility using a recirculation system to route the water to test each pump.

TEMPORARY POWER OUTAGE TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24; 8AM – 11AM
Work continues towards startup and testing of the new pump station. The next critical-path step towards startup is the upsizing of an existing SDG&E electrical transformer and the upgrade/changing of fuses on two utility poles. Today, the City was notified by SDG&E that this work has been scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 24. In order for this work to be completed SDG&E will need to temporarily turn off the power to the transformer and utility poles which will also affect homes along the west side of the 600, 700, and 800 blocks of Coronado Avenue. The work and associated power loss is scheduled to take place from 8:00am to 11:00am. SDG&E will be notifying affected homes via door-hangers. We apologize for this inconvenience.

This week, the Parker Pump Station Replacement Project reached a major milestone with the installation of sewer and storm water pumps for the new stations. The upgrade includes seven storm water pumps of various sizes and two sewer pumps. Crews are now working on wiring to connect the pumps and valves to the motor control center in the new Control Building. Over the next few weeks, mechanical work will continue with the installation of discharge piping.

Construction on the new Parker Pump Station to modernize and improve the stormwater and wastewater management in the Country Club area continues.
Filanc has completed the installation of the new 48-inch storm drain pipe along with the modifications to the existing storm drain cleanout. Work on the storm water discharge piping continues and should be completed this week. The activities related to bringing in power for the new station are currently on hold as it is with SDG&E for scheduling. The crews are also working on installing the reinforcement for the storm water pump pedestals inside the new storm wet well structure.

Work also continues on the installation of the new 48-inch storm drainpipe, modifications to an existing storm drain cleanout, and laying the storm water discharge piping.

Crews continue with the construction of the new underground pump station structure with placing rebar and laying out hatches in preparation of pouring the deck of the new storm water wet well and valve vaults. This will complete the major structural work for these structures. In addition, utility work in Coronado Avenue is underway with installation of the new 48-inch storm drainpipe. Crews will also install the force main piping at the rear of the new pump station in the coming weeks, and with the completion of this work, the construction of the new Controls Building can begin.
The Contractor has been maintaining the Best Management Practices (BMPs) onsite, and preparations have been made for anticipated rain events; this includes street sweeping and removing the inlet protection, allowing runoff to enter the storm drain system. The City has staged two dedicated, portable sewer bypass pumps at the station. One is already connected for an efficient start up, should it be needed, and a second is at the station for redundancy. A generator is ready to be powered up if there is an electrical outage. Other portable pumps are available for use around town. Additionally, we have spare sewer and storm wet well parts on-hand and the pump station alarms have been verified. During a major storm event, residents can stay up to date by checking the City website or social media sites.
