JULY 4, 2024 SCHEDULE & INFORMATION

The Coronado Independence Day holiday celebration will be observed on Thursday, July 4. The Crown City Classic run, the parade down Orange Avenue, the fireworks display, three concerts, and a Navy parachute demonstration will be held on Thursday, July 4.


JULY 4 EVENT SCHEDULE

  • 7:00-9:00 am Crown City Classic Run: Tidelands, Glorietta Blvd, Bayshore Bikeway
  • 7:00 am-8:00 pm – Food Vendors – Spreckels Park
  • 12:30-2:00 pm – Adrian Empire Demonstration & SD Star Wars Society Photo-Op Star Park
  • 2:00 pm – Navy Leap Frogs Aerial Demonstration, Coronado Golf Course, 16th Fairway
  • 2:30-3:15 pm – Public Kids Concerts – Katleen Dugas, Spreckels Park
  • 4:00-5:00 pm – Patriotic Concert – Coronado Community Band, Spreckels Park
  • 6:00-8:30 pm – Public Concert - The Mighty Untouchables, Spreckels Park
  • 9:00 pm – FIREWORKS BEGIN

INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE

  • Orange Avenue Medians: Open at 5 am. Set up on the sidewalk side of Orange Avenue before 5 am is permissible – however, attendees cannot leave items unattended or the block public right-of-way.
  • Preparade Entertainment: Begins at 7:30 am
  • Start Time: Parade begins at 10 am
  • Parade Route: Travels in southbo-und lanes of Orange Avenue, beginning at First Street at Orange Avenue and ending at Churchill Place and Ocean Boulevard at Noon.
  • To View Parade: Along the southb-ound lanes of Orange from First Street to Churchill Place.
  • Parade & Fireworks Broadcast live: on the City of Coronado Youtube site.


ROAD CLOSURES

  • Orange Avenue will be closed between First Street and R.H. Dana Place, starting at 7:30 am
  • Vehicle traffic may cross Orange during the parade, road closure only at Third and Fourth streets.
  • The 100 and 200 blocks of D, E, F, G, H, I and J avenues will be blocked or have access restricted.
  • First Street between Alameda Boulevard and Orange will be closed, and Churchill Place and a portion of Isabella Avenue will also be closed. Roadways will remain closed until 1 pm.

TOWING AND PARKING RESTRICTIONS

  • Pay attention to posted signs, park legally and your vehicle will not be towed.
  • Parking is authorized in any marked legal parking spot. If you see a “No Parking” sign, do not park your vehicle there or you will be subject to being towed or receiving a citation.
  • Those parked along the parade route, staging areas, Glorietta Boulevard, or Strand Way on the morning of July 4th will be towed starting at 4 am.
  • If your vehicle is towed, contact the Coronado Police Department at 619.522.7350 or at the Police Department, located at 700 Orange Avenue. A $137 release form from the Police Department is required to claim your vehicle at the tow facility. A valid driver’s license is required for the release form. Additional fees applied by the towing company.

FIREWORKS

The fireworks display will begin at 9:00 pm and will be launched from Stingray Point, which will result in the closure of the sandy beach. The safety zone must remain closed to the public to prevent people from setting up viewing spots in the launch area.

SAFETY ZONES

Coronado Lifeguards will be patrolling Glorietta Bay from July 1 to July 4. Two anchorage areas will be established on July 3 to allow boaters free anchorage for the fireworks. All vessels and people must be clear from Stingray Point at 6 pm. All mariners must remain in the anchorage areas during the fireworks show and keep clear of the fallout zone. The Fire Department will give an "all clear" to mariners when the firework show is over. For assistance, please call 619-522-7346.

FREE JULY 4 TRANSPORTATION

This year, residents and visitors will have two free options for getting around town on the Fourth of July. Leave your car at home and take the Free Summer Shuttle or Island Express!

Free Summer Shuttle and 901 Bus

Public transportation via the Metropolitan Transit System will be provided at the usual bus stops. Routes normally located within the parade route, including the Free Summer Shuttle, will be relocated during the Fourth of July road closures. The routes will be back to regular stops after the parade ends and traffic is reopened to vehicles on Orange Avenue.

  • Check out the Summer Shuttle Website for more information. The shuttle service to the Village will run from 9 am to 10:30 pm on July 4.

Cays Free Bus Service

  • Metropolitan Transit System will provide free bus service on July 4, for Cays residents. Service will operate from 7:30 am to 11 pm in 30-minute intervals from the northeast corner of Coronado Cays and Grande Caribe to the southeast corner of Avenue de las Arenas and Silver Strand Boulevard.
  • Stops will be made upon request at Silver Strand Military Housing on the special July 4 free bus service from the Cays to the Village.

Island Express Shuttle

The Island Express Shuttle is an on-demand electric shuttle provided by Circuit Transportation. The mini shuttle is free to the community. Six electric five-passenger vehicles will provide service to the Village and two electric 10-passenger vans will serve the Cays on the 4th of July.
